Understanding exchange verification tiers
FEB 2026
A plain-language breakdown of starter, intermediate and advanced verification tiers on crypto exchanges and trading platforms.
Tiered verification is the norm
Most exchanges and financial platforms split verification into tiers. Each tier unlocks more functionality in exchange for more documentation.
A basic tier might only need an email and phone number. A higher tier could require full ID, proof of address, and a selfie.
What limits change between tiers
Higher tiers typically raise daily deposit, withdrawal, and trading limits. They may also unlock fiat currency support, faster settlement, or customer service priority.
Lower tiers keep the onboarding process short but cap how much a user can move or hold.
Choosing the right tier
Users should match the tier to their expected activity. Paying for a higher tier than needed does not improve the account; it only adds documentation obligations.
Our directory pages list the verification tiers and limits reported by each platform for reference.
